(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, AUG 16 - The Academy apologizes to SacheenLittlefeather, 'Little Feather', 50 years after his 60 seconds on the stage of the Oscars to collect the award in place of MarlonBrando who had won as best actor for 'The Godfather '.


    The Native American, 26-year-old at the time, made a very hard speech against the mistreatment suffered by her community and was greeted by an avalanche of boos and racist insults from the audience in the room.


    "The abuse you suffered from your speech was unjustified and totally inappropriate," wrote former Academy President David Rubin in a letter to Littlefeather announcing a Sept. 17 event in Los Angeles with the Apache actress to "talk, celebrate. , to heal".


   Sacheen Littlefeather said in a statement that the Academy's scuses are "a dream come true".

"We Indians are a patient people," she wrote in a statement.
