Project How - This is what women's faces look like during orgasm (from Marcus Alberti's official page, edited by Yossi Alter)
Reaching orgasm in most cases will be accompanied by a feeling of a pulse, but for one 45-year-old woman from Mississippi, the orgasm she experienced was so powerful that she injured her main artery, putting her life in danger.
She stated that the sexual position she was in at the time was with her legs close to her chest.
The anonymous woman said that during the orgasm she heard a sort of "cracking sound in the heart" which was accompanied by a stabbing sensation, and rushed to the hospital.
There the doctors discovered that she had an intradural hematoma of the aorta, a pre-discharge condition.
This is a relatively rare condition that may usually appear in men in their 60s and 70s.
The symptoms are similar to those of heart disease - which can lead to a delay in diagnosis.
People at risk for aortic dissection, a life-threatening medical condition in which a tear forms in the inner lining of the aorta, are usually people who suffer from high blood pressure that helps weaken the aorta over time.
High-intensity weight lifting is also known to be a common cause as it results in putting additional pressure on the blood vessels.

In the American Journal of Case Reports, the doctors who treated her detailed how the woman arrived at the hospital with her blood pressure at 220/140.
Doctors found a leak in her aorta and said the "stress" from sex had caused it.
The patient was hospitalized for three days, where she was given medication for chronic hypertension.
She was released from the hospital and will be under observation.
The article reported that the woman had a history of nicotine addiction and that she smoked six to seven cigarettes each day.
They added: "There were no worrisome findings on physical examination. The patient appeared to be in moderate distress and experienced improvement in pain with 8 mg of morphine and 100 mcg of fentanyl."

As for the risk during sex, they said sex was previously described as 'moderate physical activity'.
They explained: "The physiological response to sexual activity correlates with the physical response and the emotional response. Risk of sudden cardiac death during intercourse is more relevant to situations of adultery, which may trigger an intensified or unexpected emotional response that predisposes a person to aortic dissection or sudden cardiac death." The physiological parameters of breathing rate, heart rate and blood pressure all increase with intercourse, in correlation with physical activity."
