Flakes with vegetables (Photo: Dror Einav, Dror Einav)
Chen Mizrahi from the food blog Chen in the kitchen with a recipe for perfect flakes for children.
Beyond the welcome addition of vegetables and the tomato sauce that gives great juiciness, Mizrahi upgrades the flakes with a bit of soy sauce that gives them a brown shade and silan that gives them a stunning sweetness.
A nice tip before you start:
the most important thing about flakes is their initial frying.
You should mix the flakes well in the pot with the oil and make sure that some of them brown a little so that the result is "one by one".
The rest of the cooking is very similar to cooking rice (with a towel cover to prevent the steam from dripping back from the pot lid to the flakes in the pot).
And after cooking it is recommended to wait a few minutes before serving in the closed pot.

Preparation
How do you make flakes with vegetables in red sauce?
1 Heat the oil in a pot (preferably with a non-stick coating) over medium heat.
Add the onion and a little salt and fry for about 10-15 minutes until the onion turns golden.
2 Add the flakes and fry them for about 3 minutes until some of the flakes brown a little.
3 Add the crushed garlic, zucchini, carrot and red pepper and fry for about 2-3 minutes until the vegetables soften a little.
4 Add the sweet paprika, the tomato paste, the soy, the silan, the black pepper and the salt and mix well.
5 Pour the boiling water and mix.
Cover the pot with a towel and place the pot lid on top of the towel.
6 Transfer to the lowest heat and cook for about 10 minutes.
7 Remove the pot from the heat and mix the flakes (there will still be some liquid in the pot and that's fine).
Cover the pot again and wait another 10 minutes before serving.
8 Mix well and serve immediately.
If not served immediately, it is important to mix the flakes every few minutes.
If lumps have formed, you can easily crumble them with a spoon or fork.
