A very popular activity, climbing may require some essential equipment.
Among them, climbing shoes.
These have a shape perfectly adapted to successfully use the sockets present on the walls.
Moreover, in the case of bouldering, the shoes will be the only necessary accessory.
You can easily use sports clothes already present in your closet as long as they allow you good freedom of movement.
If you practice on track, on the other hand, you will need ropes and a harness to be attached.
Once mainly available in stores or on specialized sites, climbing shoes are now much more easily accessible.
There are many references on the sites of general or more specialized brands in the field of sport.
Consumers therefore have a wide choice according to their budget, their level and the type of practice.

Why use climbing shoes?
A priori, we could say that sneakers type shoes are the most suitable for climbing without hurting yourself with the grips which are hard and sometimes sharp.
However, they lack flexibility and are not indicated.
Slippers, on the other hand, mold well to the shape of the foot and follow its movement.
Thanks to their reinforcements at the front and on the sides, they allow you to optimize the use of each hold.
Climbing shoes are also lightweight.
They are designed to facilitate movement on the wall and offer very good grip.
How to choose your climbing shoe size?
If you want to be comfortable in your climbing shoes, it is essential to choose them well, starting with their size.
When you put on your pair of slippers, your foot must not float in them.
It must be well maintained at the front, at the back, but also on the sides.
You should therefore opt for the smallest possible pair.
Be careful however, you should not take too just either.
Even though climbing shoes are rarely very comfortable, they should not hurt you when you wear them.
More generally, for beginners, we recommend buying climbing shoes in their usual size or one below.
To make your selection, there will be other criteria to take into account.
We can notably cite the type of practice, for example indoors or on a cliff.
You must also consider your level.
If you are a beginner, it will be of little use to choose a very expensive and very technical model.
Also remember to clean your climbing shoes regularly to keep them as long as possible.
With or without socks?
When you rent climbing shoes, you don't necessarily want to wear them barefoot.
However, it is not advisable to wear socks when climbing.
Indeed, traditional socks will be a little too thick.
They therefore risk creating friction in the climbing shoes which could lead to blisters.
In addition, the socks can reduce the sensitivity in the climbing shoe which is nevertheless essential for climbing at best.
You have to feel the grips as much as possible so that you don't risk your foot slipping or you falling.
If you absolutely insist on wearing socks in your bouldering or on-track climbing shoes, rest assured, it is possible.
There are models specially designed for this activity.
This type of socks will be very thin and will not include seams.
This way you avoid additional friction points and keep a maximum of sensations.
If you tend to sweat a lot on your feet, socks will be particularly useful to avoid sweating directly in your slippers.
There are thermoregulatory models that considerably reduce the humidity present in the slippers.
You will not risk friction and avoid bad odors.
Do not hesitate to alternate according to the practice and the conditions in order to enjoy optimal comfort during each of your climbing sessions.
