The cold season is coming soon.

The heating is turned on so that it is pleasantly warm in the apartment.

But if you put the furniture wrong, you throw money out the window.

Stuttgart - The weather in Germany showed its mild side last winter.

Instead of freezing cold and snow, in many places there were wintry, but definitely pleasant temperatures.

It is not yet possible to say whether this will also be the case in the coming winter.

Rising energy prices are also making so many shiver.

Electricity, heating oil and gas are becoming more and more expensive.

The situation is getting worse and worse as a result of the Russian war against Ukraine.

Despite rising energy prices, you can save money with a few tricks.

Some tricks are easier than you think and require little effort.

If you put the furniture right, for example, less heating is required and the apartment is warmer.

You have to pay attention to this when moving furniture.

Heat source Radiators: Never place furniture, decorations, etc. directly in front of them

When it comes to rearranging furniture, some people may have to think of Feng Shui.

The apartment is furnished in such a way that the chi can flow unhindered, which in turn should make you feel more comfortable.

In principle, exactly the same is done when moving furniture for the cold season: Instead of Chi, warm air should be able to spread unhindered in the room.

Therefore, heat sources such as stoves or radiators should never be covered by other furniture or objects.

It is therefore advisable to check the entire apartment to see whether radiators are blocked and then to clear them.

If larger pieces of furniture, such as a couch, cannot simply be placed somewhere else, the piece of furniture should at least be at a distance from the radiator.

The minimum distance is between 20 and 30 centimetres, otherwise the air cannot circulate sufficiently.

Even decorative items or curtains can drive up energy costs.

With an electric storage heater, an even greater distance is advisable, as these become very hot and can damage the furniture.

It should be at least 50 centimeters here.

Rearranging is worthwhile in any case: If the radiators are cleared, up to 12 percent of energy costs can be saved according to the Federal Ministry of Economics.

Household appliances also consume a lot of electricity.

Tumble dryers, refrigerators and the like are real power guzzlers.

Attention, outer walls: furniture should be placed with sufficient distance

Overhanging furniture should also be placed on outside walls with a distance of at least 5 centimeters.

Because normally the air circulates in the room and transfers the heat to the walls.

If, for example, an armchair or a cupboard is standing directly against the wall, the warm air cannot reach the area behind the furniture and the area cools down.

Therefore, not only is more energy required, such a cool spot is also the perfect breeding ground for mold.

It can also form easily in car air conditioning systems.

Therefore, immediate action should be taken if the air conditioning system starts to stink.

Since exterior walls have a generally increased risk of mold, especially in autumn and winter, due to the large temperature difference between wall and room, exterior walls should not be covered by large furniture if possible.
