Discover how the cook, legendary butler of Nicolas Fouquet, dazzled the evening of August 17, 1661 which caused the fall of his master

We never tire of visiting Vaux-le-Vicomte (Seine-et-Marne), the castle which inspired Louis XIV for Versailles, but which caused its owner Nicolas Fouquet to be thrown in prison until his death.

The young king's superintendent of finances just wanted to show him his sublime property.

The monarch, jealous and humiliated by so much pomp, had Fouquet arrested by d'Artagnan three weeks after this feast.

Through an exhibition, the castle returns to this August 17, 1661, behind the scenes of the kitchens, showing how François Vatel prepared "the ambiguous".

This dinner-dinner mixes savory, sweet, hot and cold dishes.

Unlike a buffet, each guest remains at the table, in front of his plate.

On a long table, Vatel plays the dress rehearsal the day before the big night.
