The press release on Rammstein's planned Munich concert on New Year's Eve is only two sentences long.

But the way the organizer Klaus Leutgeb is quoted in it shows how much struggle there was for this show – and ultimately also for its cancellation.

»The organizer and the authorities have

mutually

(bold in the original)

agreed that the remaining time until December 31, 2022 is not sufficient to be able to safely carry out a concert of this magnitude," says the first sentence.

The request to the city only became public at the beginning of August, according to which Rammstein wanted to herald the turn of the year on the meadow famous for the Oktoberfest.

145,000 visitors should have come according to the ideas of the Austrian organizer Leutgeb, who caused a sensation in Munich with large concerts by Andreas Gabalier and Helene Fischer.

However, it was deposited that an alternative location for the Rammstein New Year's party was also being discussed with the Zollverein in Essen.

The city council approved the plans

Munich's tourism officer rushed to explain what a "wonderful opportunity" such a concert would be for the Bavarian capital.

The city council approved the plans on August 10 – with dissenting votes from the Greens, Left and ÖDP;

but above all subject to the approval of the district administration department.

That's where the objections were obviously piling up.

They came from the security authorities, who pointed out that the police and fire brigade were traditionally under heavy strain on New Year's Eve.

But the Tollwood Winter Festival also had its say – a New Year's Eve gala has been taking place on the Theresienwiese grounds as part of this for 22 years.

The Munich newspapers sometimes commented in one direction, sometimes the other;

there was already talk of a split in the city over the Rammstein case.

That's probably why the emphasis on the consensual nature of the cancellation decision.

After a conversation with the city of Munich in the morning, the organizer surprisingly canceled, said a spokesman for the district administration department on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, the Leutgeb Entertainment Group justified the decision with the high time pressure under which they would have had to develop a coherent security concept for the concert.

"An event has to work for everyone involved, which is why I, as the organizer, decided to end the planned project for reasons of REASON

(originally in capital letters)

," read the second sentence of the statement.
