PS Remote Play allows PS5 and PS4 games to be streamed to other devices.
We explain how this works in this article.
The Nintendo Switch is characterized by mobility.
It can be played on the TV via the docking station or as a handheld console on the go.
The devices of the competition do not allow this.
After all, mobile gaming on the PlayStation is possible via detours – via PS Remote Play.
The function came in November 2020 - so at the same time as the PS5.
With the Remote Play app it is possible to transfer the content of the PlayStation to other devices via streaming.
In the following we explain which steps are necessary for this.
PS Remote Play: What are the requirements for the feature?
To use Remote Play on the PS5 or PS4 you need:
A compatible smartphone or tablet.
You can find out whether your device is suitable for this in the relevant app store under the requirements for PS Remote Play.
Basically, the app is available on various iOS and Android devices.
A PS5 or PS4 and a DualShock or DualSense controller.
A PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
A good and stable internet connection, both for the console and the mobile device.
Sony recommends an upload and download speed of 15MB per second.
Remote play should also not be used via the mobile data volume, as this is used up very quickly.
PS Remote Play: Prepare your PS5 or PS4
From the Start menu, go to Settings > System > Remote Play.
Activate the function here.
Then use Settings > System > Energy Saver > Features available in rest mode to keep your console connected to the internet.
Here you also set that you can switch on the PlayStation via the network.
The console cannot be turned off for remote play, but it is sufficient if it is in sleep mode.
PS Remote Play: How to use the function
Install the PS Remote Play app from the App Store or Google Play.
Make sure the PlayStation is on or in sleep mode.
Launch the Remote Play app on your mobile device.
Sign in with your PSN account.
It must be the same as what you use on your console.
The app will search for the PS5 console you've signed into with your account and then automatically connect to the console.
If there is no automatic connection, go to "Settings" > "System" > "Remote Play" > "Link devices" on your console.
Here you will be shown an eight-digit code that you can enter manually via the Remote Play app.
Once connected, your PS5 console screen will be displayed on your mobile device and you can use Remote Play continuously - without having to reconnect your device each time.
