The German star director Wolfgang Petersen is dead. He died of cancer on Friday at the age of 81, as his assistant told the dpa news agency.
US media had previously reported citing the Petersens production company.
Petersen has directed films such as Das Boot, Outbreak, Air Force One and Der Sturm.
