Mariah Carey wants to secure the rights to the title "Queen of Christimas". That drives other "queens" up the wall. Christmas should not belong to anyone alone, believes Elizabeth Chan.

Their album »Merry Christmas« is one of the best-selling Christmas records.

Isn't it obvious that Mariah Carey considers herself the "Queen of Christmas"?

Two of her colleagues don't see it that way.

Darlene Love and Elizabeth Chan, who have also been associated with the term over the years, have opposed Carey's attempts to own the title.

Singer Love wrote on Facebook that she was the "Queen of Christmas" before Carey was even famous.

"David Letterman officially proclaimed me Queen of Christmas 29 years ago, a year before she released All I Want For Christmas Is You, and at 81 I'm NOT changing that," wrote Love, who wrote the 1963 song "Christmas ( Baby Please Come Home)" for "Phil Spector's Christmas Album": "I've been in business for 52 years, I've earned it and I can still hit those notes!" call a lawyer.

Chan, an artist who has only sung Christmas music for decades and thus justified her claim to the title, even filed a formal objection to Carey's application on Friday.

Speaking to industry magazine Vanity Fair, the reason given was that "no one should monopolize or monopolize the celebration of Christmas, as Mariah intends to do forever."

According to the 42-year-old, Christmas is for everyone: "It's meant to be shared, it's not meant to be owned."

Chan aggressively markets herself as »The Queen of Christmas«, in 2021 she released an album of the same name.

Speaking of Carey's request, she said: 'She's trying to protect her name in every way she can - clothes, liquor, masks, dog collars - it's all there.

If you knit a Queen of Christmas sweater, you should be able to sell it on Etsy to someone else to buy for their grandma.”

Carey's team filed the application for the trademark and myriad related merchandise rights back in March 2021, but it was only recently made public.

Carey herself had said before Christmas 2021 that the title "Queen of Christmas" belonged to St. Mary, not her.

Other people gave her the title, the 52-year-old told the British BBC.

“I would like to say in all humility that I do not see myself that way.

For me, Mary is the Queen of Christmas.« Before the upcoming festival, she has apparently changed her mind.
