At Aldi, Lidl and Co. goods from other areas are offered in addition to groceries.

But Lidl is apparently going to withdraw this offer soon.

Munich – discounters and supermarkets often surprise with innovations around their branches.

For example, Kaufland recently introduced a new concept for more environmental protection, and customers can soon expect a new shopping system from the discounters Aldi and Lidl.

The discounter Lidl has now announced another change, which could turn out to the regret of many customers.

If you shop at Lidl and other discounters, you will normally also find many goods from the non-food sector there, such as clothing or tools, and depending on the season, garden furniture or sports equipment.

As the

Lebensmittel Zeitung

found out, Lidl is supposed to significantly reduce this offer from next year.

The reasons for this are logistics problems on the one hand and the customers themselves on the other. The demand for non-food goods is falling, and sales are currently collapsing.

Lidl pulls the ripcord: non-food goods are expected to fly off the shelves from 2023

The announcement comes as a surprise, as the non-food range is the second most profitable area in the Lidl range after the baking stations in the branches.

But now there were initially logistical difficulties and therefore poor availability of the goods in the branches, a discount manager told the newspaper.

Added to this is the declining purchasing power of customers, which is suspected to be due to rising energy prices.

"Everything over 20 euros has dramatic declines," says the manager.

Customers would pay more attention to their money and therefore buy less.

From 2023, many goods from the non-food sector will therefore have to fly off the shelves.

Those responsible from more than 30 countries where Lidl is located would have placed significantly fewer orders for non-food goods for the coming year.

The

Lebensmittel Zeitung

claims to have learned this from insiders.

But Lidl is not alone with the problem: According to research, Aldi has also recorded similar declines in the purchase of non-food items.
