Flames, heat, smoke - everything up close: Firefighters near Valencia in their dangerous fight against a forest fire.
Cause: A lightning strike.
Hundreds of emergency services have been trying to get the fire under control around the clock since last Sunday.
Around 4,000 hectares have already burned in the region.
Roads were closed and around 2,000 people were brought to safety.
Two firefighters have been injured in the devastating fire.
11 others were injured when this train, traveling from Valencia to Zaragoza, had to stop on the open track due to fire and smoke.
Some passengers jumped onto the track bed in a panic – three people suffered severe burns and eight others suffered minor injuries, the RTVE news agency reported.
Vall d'Ebo region, Spain
200 kilometers further south, in the Vall d'Ebo region, another fire has so far destroyed 11,000 hectares of forest.
2022 is Spain's worst forest fire year since records began.
Parts of the country are as dry as they have been for 1,200 years.
There is also extreme heat: July was the hottest month since 1961, when Spanish weather records began.
In total, more than 270,000 hectares have already been devastated by fires in 2022.
Normally it is an average of 70,000 hectares per year.
