US actor Robert De Niro gets involved again in a mafia drama.
The 78-year-old Hollywood star will star in the planned thriller Wise Guys, directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam), the American industry media Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported.
The script was written by Nicholas Pileggi (»GoodFellas – Three Decades in the Mafia«, »Casino«).
The story revolves around the two mafia bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, who ruled New York in the 1950s and 1960s.
De Niro and Levinson have previously worked together on films such as Wag the Dog and Sleepers.
In 2017, the director brought the Oscar winner to the camera for the TV film »The Wizard of Lies« in the role of billionaire fraudster Bernie Madoff.
Robert De Niro rose to fame for numerous mobster roles including The Godfather Part II and GoodFellas.
In 2019, he played a hitman in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman.
In 2020 he starred in the mobster comedy Kings of Hollywood with fellow actors Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones.
