North Korea has launched two cruise missiles: the Seoul Ministry of Defense has announced, Pyongyang's first weapons test in weeks. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - SEUL, AUGUST 17 - North Korea has launched two cruise missiles: the Ministry of Defense in Seoul has announced, the first weapons test in Pyongyang in weeks.


   "Early this morning, we found that North Korea launched two cruise missiles into the West Sea from Onchon in southern Pyongan province," a ministry official said.

"The US and South Korean military authorities are analyzing specific details such as flight distance," he added.


    North Korea has not tested a cruise missile - which is not prohibited by UN sanctions against the country - since January, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

The last time Pyongyang conducted a weapons test was on July 10,


    Since January, Pyongyang has been testing several weapons, some of which are not allowed by the sanctions in place, most notably the launch of an ICBM for the first time since 2017. Officials in Washington and Seoul have also warned that the Pyongyang regime is preparing to end that. which would be its seventh nuclear test.
