The Chineseness is strong inside: a transformation in the ranking of the 20 largest airlines in the world
The dramatic changes in the aviation industry also brought with them a fascinating change in the ranking of the largest airlines in the world.
In first place: the American Southwest Airlines, which offered 168,852,981 seats in 2021.
But the big winners are probably the Chinese

It is no secret that over the past two and a half years there has been a dramatic change in the aviation industry.
Starting in March 2020, the Corona epidemic forced airlines around the world to reduce and change their schedules, while many restrictions were imposed and many countries closed their borders.
At the same time, many pilots asked for early retirement, many workers were laid off and planes around the world were grounded.
However, the Business Insider website reports that the high demand for flights these days is playing up the cards again in the industry.
Now that flights are returning faster than expected, airlines are making many moves to keep up.
For example, the purchase of new planes, the opening of new airline routes and the massive advertising of jobs for new employees, both for the benefit of the ground crews and for the benefit of the air crews.
Airlines worldwide are estimated to have carried 2.2 billion people and 22.2 million flights in 2021, research firm Finances Online reported, citing data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This compares to 1.8 billion passengers in 2020, which were only 40% of the 4.5 billion that flew in 2019.

The Americans are in the lead, the Chinese are marching forward
These revolutions also changed the ranking of the largest airlines in the world.
For example, it turns out that the four leading airlines in the United States, as well as a number of Chinese airlines, entered this year's list of the "20 largest airlines in the world", with hundreds of millions of seats offered to passengers in 2021. This is according to a report by the London-based OAG company.
For comparison, the company also provided the 2018 data, which showed that the American airline American Airlines is the largest in the world in terms of the number of seats available to passengers.
A year later, the ranking changed, and the first place was taken by another American company: Southwest Airlines.
And in general, it is interesting to discover that some of the airlines that entered the top 20 list in 2018 offered significantly more seats than in 2021.
One way or another, during the sharp changes in the industry, there are a handful of companies that did not enter the ranking at all in 2018, but recently increased their capabilities and were included in the report.
For example, the American airline Jet-Blue and the Chinese company Hainan Airlines.
In the following list, the number of seats in 2021 compared to 2018 is shown. In some of the rankings there is no data for comparison, due to the fact that the same companies that entered the 2021 ranking were not in it in 2018.
