The so-called energy price flat rate is part of the federal government's relief package.

In order to at least partially cushion the sharp rise in energy costs caused by the Ukraine war, the federal government launched the relief package.
Finally, the gas surcharge will result in significant additional costs for consumers.
In addition to the 9-euro ticket, for example, citizens should benefit from the energy price flat rate of 300 euros.

What exactly is the energy price flat rate and when is it paid out?
With the energy price flat rate of 300 euros, the federal government wants to relieve all employees in tax brackets 1 to 5 who are subject to income tax, as reported by the
MDR
.
The one-time, taxable bonus is to be paid out with salary in September.
According to the report, the income tax advance payment for the self-employed should be reduced once by this amount.
You should discover an energy price flat rate of 300 euros on your payslip in September 2022 – if you are entitled to it.
In some cases, the energy flat rate can also be paid out twice.
However, you are not allowed to keep the overpaid money.

Who gets the 300 euro energy price flat rate?
According to a report by the Frankfurter Rundschau
, the one-time payment of the energy price flat rate of 300 euros will be given to
everyone who is resident in Germany or who usually stays there and is therefore subject to unlimited tax liability and who will receive their income from agriculture, forestry and commercial operations in the course of 2022 , self-employment or paid work.
According to the Frankfurter Rundschau, the following employees will receive a one-time payment of the energy price flat rate of 300 euros:
Workers, employees, trainees, civil servants, judges, soldiers
Mini-jobbers and all temporary workers in agriculture and forestry
Employees in the passive phase of semi-retirement
Who saves a value credit with the German Pension Insurance (DRV).
Anyone doing federal or youth voluntary service
Who receives subsidies from the employer (e.g. for maternity leave)
Those who only receive tax-free wages (e.g. voluntary trainers)
Working students or students in paid internships
Anyone who works in a sheltered workshop
Anyone who is in active employment receives wage replacement benefits, including short-time work benefits, insolvency benefits, sick pay, maternity benefits, parental benefits, compensation for loss of earnings under the Infection Protection Act and transfer short-time work benefits

Who gets the 300 Euro energy price flat rate twice?
If you are entitled to the 300 euro energy price flat rate, you should only get it once.
However, it can happen that some groups of people are paid the energy flat rate twice - for example if you are employed and also work as a freelancer or run a business, as a report by

According to the report, in addition to income from non-self-employed work, these groups of people also received income under Section 15 of the Income Tax Act (commercial enterprise) or Section 18 of the Income Tax Act (self-employed work), the same applies to income from Section 13 of the Income Tax Act (agriculture and forestry).
It can happen that the energy price flat-rate is paid to you by your employer in your pay slip, and that you are automatically reduced in the case of tax prepayments.
But don't rejoice too soon - with the help of the tax return, the tax office will get back the overpaid money from you.
In any case, you are not allowed to keep an energy price flat rate that has been paid out twice.
