A regional train collided with a drunk's car at a level crossing in Upper Swabia on Tuesday evening.
The 37-year-old driver got stuck with his car on the tracks near Bad Schussenried, the police said.
According to the information, he was able to get out in time and alert the emergency services.
Shortly thereafter, a regional train drove into the car and pushed it more than a hundred meters in front of it, the police said.
The approximately 150 passengers on the train and the staff were therefore unharmed.
The driver escaped with minor injuries.
An alcohol test gave him a value “well over 1.5 per mille”.
Accident reported shortly before
According to witnesses, the 37-year-old had previously driven over the center island of a roundabout - and later turned onto a closed district road that leads to the railway track.
The police estimate the property damage at around 100,000 euros.
According to the information, the railway line remained closed for the time being due to salvage work.
One does not assume that there will be any significant impairments in train traffic on Wednesday, said a railway spokesman.
In the meantime, the railway has set up a rail replacement service.
