The consequences of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine are increasing costs in Germany.

Now the gas surcharge is added.

Germany – It is intended to protect gas importers from going out and ultimately protect us from supply bottlenecks: the gas surcharge.

For German households, this means in concrete terms that gas will soon have to be paid around 2.42 cents more per kilowatt hour.

After three months, the amount could even increase.

The gas levy burdens private individuals and companies in addition to the energy costs, which have risen anyway, writes RUHR24.

Gas surcharge will come from October – the aim is to save gas importers from bankruptcy

The reason for the situation is Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.

Germany has shown solidarity with Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Russia.

The consequences include bottlenecks in gas supplies because Russia's President Putin has limited supplies to Germany to exert pressure.

Gas importers are feeling the effects, with significantly higher procurement costs, as the

Tagesschau

reports.

Gas importers are in fact obliged to deliver gas, in particular to municipal utilities.

Due to longer fixed prices, they have not been able to pass on their additional costs to customers so far.

Politicians fear that many gas importers could go bankrupt as a result, which would mean further delivery bottlenecks for consumers, reports

To prevent things from happening in the first place, the federal government has decided on the gas levy.

Households and companies pay money, which is passed on to the corporations so that they don't have to close down and continue to procure gas.

The gas surcharge will come from October, should apply until the end of March 2024 and is 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour.

The joint venture of the gas transmission system operator Trading Hub Europe made this public on Monday (15 August).

Millions of households will pay more for heating from October – one group will be compensated

In Germany, this affects millions of households that heat with gas or use mixed systems.

Tenants without gas heating still have to reckon with significantly higher ancillary cost bills and, if necessary, heating cost deductions.

According to model calculations, anyone who heats with gas and lives in a family of 3 to 4 people pays around 500 euros more per year – for couples it is between 300 and 400 euros more.

For people who earn little money, the current situation can be very stressful.

That is why the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have decided to pay relief to citizens who receive housing benefit.

The one-off heating cost subsidy is paid out automatically and is around 300 euros, depending on the household.
