China: 16 dead and 36 missing from floods in Qinghai

(ANSA) - BEIJING, AUGUST 18 - Sixteen people have died and dozens are missing due to the sudden floods that hit the northwest of China, which is instead struggling with the hottest summer of the last 60 years, at the origin of water and electricity rationing.

According to the state-owned CCTV network, a sudden downpour triggered landslides that diverted a river in the mountainous region of Datong County, Qinghai, affecting more than 6,200 people in six villages.

"Amezzogiorno, the relief report estimated 16 people killed and 36 missing," CCTV reported.
