The drugstore chain Rossmann is currently running a smoothie recall.

The drink was apparently sold throughout Germany.

Burgwedel ‒ Rossmann GmbH is recalling its “enerBIO Haferfreude Smoothie” item from sale.

All bottles sold in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia have reached the branches of the drug market chain.

The reason given by the company based in Burgwedel is that the product contains traces of peanuts and other nuts as well as sesame.

These can cause allergic reactions and lead to reddening of the skin and eyes.

In addition, breathing and circulatory problems could arise from the consumption of the product, the company said in a press release.

Rossmann smoothie warning: Allergen information is mandatory

According to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, allergen labeling of packaged and unpackaged food is mandatory in all EU member states.

This is stipulated by the EU Food Information Regulation (LMIV).

The fourteen foods – the so-called “Allergen Fourteen” – which cause around 90 percent of all food allergies and intolerances in Europe, “must always be recognizable for consumers.

The LMIV regulates how allergens have to be indicated on the label of packaged food," says the Federal Center for Nutrition.

Recall from Rossmann-Smoothie: Customers can return items

According to Rossmann, the allergens found are harmless for people who do not have any allergies in this regard.

Nevertheless, the drugstore chain very much regrets the incident and apologizes for the inconvenience.

Rossmann asks its customers to stop using all bottles of the "enerBiO Haferfreude Smoothie".

The product affected by the recall can be brought back to the points of sale in return for a refund of the purchase price.

The company does not explain whether the refund will also be made without presenting the receipt.

The drugstore chain dm also warned consumers this month about its organic smoothie with protein.

As a reason for the recall, the company states that the product could contain traces of peanuts, sesame and other nuts.

However, this is not stated on the bottle of the item and therefore the allergen labeling is incorrect.
