The US rapper Kid Cudi spoke in an interview about his drug withdrawal and health problems.
During a stay in a rehab in 2016, he suffered a stroke, the 38-year-old said in an interview with Esquire published on Wednesday.
He was taken to the hospital, had been able to speak slowly and move poorly for months.
"Everything was broken," said the musician, whose real name is Scott Mescudi.
He then spent several months in rehabilitation.
He reached a milestone in his recovery when he auditioned for a role in the Broadway production Lobby Hero in 2017.
For the casting he had to remember "an intimidating amount of dialogue".
When the role ended up going to another actor, he wasn't disappointed.
“I've proved to myself that I can do it.
I needed that at the time,' he said.
"I was happy.
I thought damn my brain is still strong.
I didn't lose anything by the crap that happened.«
Kid Cudi finally feels grown up
Today he feels good in his role as a mental health spokesperson, which he has acquired particularly through his song lyrics.
"I'm ready to wear these shoes and be a role model." He is now the adult he wants to be.
»At the age of 38 I can actually say that I love myself.
And I couldn't have said that six years ago.
Now I can say that with confidence and really believe in it, and it shows.”
Kid Cudi is particularly successful in the USA.
In 2008 he achieved worldwide success with the hit »Day 'n' Nite«.
The song has now been viewed almost 200 million times on YouTube.
The musician has worked with David Guetta and star producer Jay-Z, among others.
His 2020 album »The Scotts«, which he recorded with Travis Scott, reached number one in the US charts.
