EA scored an own goal before the release of "FIFA 23".
Some fans were able to dust off the game at an incredible bargain price.
Die-hard "FIFA" fans have to pay full price for the latest version every year.
Although the innovations are limited - and players often criticize that - the football simulation is still one of the best-selling video games of the year.
Some fans were very lucky with "FIFA 23" and were able to secure the latest offshoot for just a few cents.
Because EA accidentally offered the "FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition" in advance in the Epic Games Store in India for a mere 4.8 Indian rupees - the equivalent of about 6 cents.
Normally, this edition costs almost 100 euros.
Not only Indian gamers could benefit from this great offer.
Some buyers have also been able to access the Indian Epic Games Store from other countries.
Some players reported on their lucky buy on Twitter.
"FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition" for 6 cents: EA takes it easy
Of course, publisher EA quickly corrected the offer.
As
PC Gamer
reports, EA then wrote an email to the buyers and assured them that they would not ask the correct price for it.
The mail reads (via

): "A few weeks ago we scored quite a spectacular own goal when we accidentally mispriced 'FIFA 23' on the Epic Games Store.
This was our mistake and we wanted to let you know that we will honor any pre-orders placed at this price.”
"FIFA 23" will be the last of EA Sports
After "FIFA 23" the series will be renamed "EA Sports FC".

EA announced a while ago that the FIFA license will not be renewed.
"FIFA 23" will thus be the last title before the series is renamed "EA Sports FC".
It is still unclear whether another developer will take over the brand and produce their own "FIFA 24".
