The sign in an Ikea branch in Würzburg has caused outrage on social media.
There is talk of paternalism.
The customer of the furniture store becomes an object of education.
Munich/Stockholm – Ikea is actually a furniture store.
But there seems to be plenty of people who also pay a visit to the furniture store for Swedish delicacies.
Because a lot has happened at Ikea in recent years, especially when it comes to food.
In addition to Köttbullar, even Plantbullar – i.e. a vegan alternative – are now offered.
The popular hot dogs are also available in a vegan version.
Now the Swedish furniture manufacturer is going one step further.
Ikea branch removes fries from the menu: Twitter users are not happy at all
The sign with the polarizing message, which has now appeared on the Internet on Twitter, went too far for many users.
At the forefront of the shitstorm against IKEA is journalist Boris Reitschuster.
“I consciously avoid shops that want to lecture and patronize me.
I want to be treated as a responsible customer and not as an object of education.” Period.
Reader Mario Mieruch is also irritated by this comment and responds appropriately to Boris:
Ikea abolishes fries: regulation does not apply throughout Germany
According to
Bild.de
, the furniture store Ikea is now making it clear that this is an individual decision by the Ikea location in Würzburg.
This regulation does not apply to all furniture stores in Germany.
There is no talk of abolishing the popular side dish.
In any case, fries are not an integral part of the offer in the Ikea kitchen.
The furniture store is already focusing more on sustainable, fresh and meat-free food such as salmon, seafood and organic products.
But Swedish meatballs have also been well received by visitors to the restaurants for years.
After all, Ikea doesn't want to be a down-to-earth farmhouse parlour, but still sees itself as a furniture store for customers on a tight budget.
