A macabre discovery.

The remains of children, of primary school age, have been discovered in two suitcases sold at auction in New Zealand.

“The remains had been in two pieces of luggage of the same size for probably several years”, explained Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua, during a press conference.

The victims are said to be between five and ten years old.

The suitcases were in a trailer full of loose items, purchased days earlier by an Auckland family at a warehouse auction.

According to the BBC, customers of this type of sale often ignore the details of the objects before bidding, the aim being precisely to hope to discover valuable goods inside these storage rooms.

But on August 11, a strong smell emanating from the famous trailer bought by this family alerted neighbors, and led to the macabre discovery.

A homicide investigation has since been opened after the bodies were discovered.

“The investigation team is working very hard to hold responsible the person or persons who caused the death of these children (…) We reaffirm that the occupants of the property on Avenue Moncrieff (the purchasers of the suitcase, Ed. ) are not linked to the death of the children.

They are naturally upset and asked for their privacy to be respected,” said Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua, indicating that the police's priority for the moment was to identify the victims.

A largely complicated task since the bodies seem to have been hidden inside for several years.
