The story of a young woman who, with a lot of courage, saved many people from certain death at the hands of the National Socialists.

The author Caroline Bernard likes to write about strong women, women who make a difference, including the Jewess Lisa Fittko.
Together with her husband and many supporters, she managed to save several hundred endangered people from the Germans.
Caroline Bernard - "The Daring One": About the Book
Not everything that is described in the novel actually happened.
But the work that Lisa Fittko has done is verifiable.
Many of the women who were in the resistance at the time are hardly mentioned.
Not because they were forgotten - they hardly talked about it because they took it for granted to help people in need.
France 1940: Ever since the Nazis came to power, Lisa has been in the resistance.
As an enemy alien, she is interned in southern France.
In order not to fall into the hands of the advancing Germans, she flees at the last minute.
In Marseille, Lisa and her husband Hans are desperately trying to get exit visas.
She meets the American Louis.
They fall head over heels in love.
Louis stands for everything she longs for: security, reliability, tenderness.
Then she is given the task of finding a secret escape route for German exiles in the Pyrenees and suddenly she has to make a decision: will she follow Louis and her desire for love or will she continue to fight for justice and freedom?
And for the lives of so many people?
Caroline Bernard "The Daring One"
Despite the subject, the novel is written in a rather positive way.
Anyone expecting detailed accounts of German atrocities here will be largely disappointed.
It is the hopeful story of a young woman who tries everything imaginable to save people's lives.
And maybe she doesn't attach so much importance to her own.
Caroline Bernard - "The Daring One": My conclusion
Despite everything, Caroline Bernard's novel got me emotionally carried away.
Being reminded again of the terrible times that prevailed and the knowledge of the time afterwards made me think.
The little love episodes within the novel were a really healing patch.
Even if they were presented very briefly.
A novel that won't let you go so easily.
Recommended for everyone who would like to read the story of a not so well-known resistance fighter.
