Other grain silos in the port of Beirut collapsed after the first eight granary towers of the seaport collapsed between the end of July and the beginning of August due to a fire never extinguished by the fire brigade and on which the authorities they decided not to intervene.

In the last few hours, other silos in the northern part of the structure collapsed, damaged on 4 August 2020 in the devastating explosion that killed about 250 people, injured more than 6 thousand people and destroyed a third of the Lebanese capital.

The burning of spoiled grain residues at the base of the silos continues without the firefighters intervening to put out the flames.

And this on the orders of the competent ministries.

For a political decision, defined as "technical" by the outgoing Lebanese government, the authorities have left the silos structure abandoned for two years: without any intervention or support for what has not collapsed in 2020 or for the demolition of the rubble yet standing.

At the base of the silos there are also tons of spoiled wheat, which are the main fuel of the flames that have been lit since last July.

In the last few hours, the authorities have issued warnings to citizens to avoid staying for a long time in the port area in order not to breathe the toxic fumes from the ongoing fire.

The first collapse occurred on July 31st.

The second on 4 August last, precisely in correspondence with the second anniversary of the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, for seven years guilty unattended in one of the hangars of the port, nestled in the city center, a stone's throw from the streets of nightlife Beirut, the institutional headquarters and the main trade routes.
