In the novel Hagen von Tronje, published in 1986, the author Wolfgang Hohlbein combines the Nibelungen saga with elements from other myths and comes up with his own interpretation of the events surrounding Hagen, Siegfried and Kriemhild.
Maybe it will soon be anchored in the minds of many people, because the film production company Constantin and the TV broadcaster RTL are planning an elaborate film adaptation.
For her, Hohlbein gets to the heart of the legend: »In the struggle for power, every means is allowed and love is a more dangerous weapon than the sword.«
The sentence comes in a statement about the start of filming, which is scheduled to begin in September 2022 in Prague and Germany.
"Hagen", as the project is called, is initially to be released in cinemas as a "visually stunning feature film" and then as a six-part series on RTL and the streaming service RTL+.
Martin Moskowicz and Oliver Berben are in charge of the recordings as Executive Producers.

According to the content, the events develop around two dazzling figures: »Hagen von Tronje, the dark warrior of the Nibelungen saga, becomes a lonely hero« and the radiant Siegfried »appears here as an unscrupulous upstart, as a representative of an authoritarian form of government, supported by a new religion, Christianity.
The subject of the first joint feature film by the directing duo was less arrogant: in 2006, Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert made their debut with the Edgar Wallace remake »Neues vom Wixxer«.
They have already devoted themselves to German myths in »Die Dasslers«, and Boss and Stennert were highly praised for the Sky series »Der Pass«.
