He's appeared on shows like Batman, Vegas and Lost in Space, but Joe E. Tata is best known for his enduring presence as the owner of a retro diner on the West Coast series Beverly Hills, 90210.

The US actor has died at the age of 85.

As Tata's daughter Kelly announced on the donation platform Gofundme, Tata already died on August 24th.

"My dad and I are eternally grateful for the love and support from family, friends and fans," Tata's daughter wrote.

She had previously solicited funds on the site, apparently after disputes over Tata's guardianship.

Tata was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2018.

According to daughter Kelly, the remaining funds from the campaign should now benefit an Alzheimer's Foundation.

She credited Tata as a "really incredible dad" on the page.

Actor Ian Ziering, who played Steven "Steve" Sanders in 90210, wrote on Instagram that Tata was "one of the happiest people" he's ever worked with.

"He may have been more in the background of many scenes, but he was a driving force," Ziering wrote.
