The PS5 is now selling at a higher price - both the standard and digital editions.
Gamers have to pay 50 euros more.
The rising prices also affect the gaming market.
Sony explains on the official PlayStation Blog that the PS5 will be more expensive in selected markets.
The company cites the "global economic environment" as well as the high inflation rates and negative currency trends as the reason.
Almost all regions are affected by the price increase: Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, Australia, Canada and Mexico.
According to Sony, the prices in this country now look like this:
PS5 Standard Edition - with hard drive: 549.99 euros
PS5 Digital Edition - without hard drive: 449.99 euros
PS5 availability still an issue
This measure is particularly annoying for many PlayStation fans, as not everyone has had the opportunity to get their hands on a PS5.
Since the console was launched in November 2020, it has only been available at retailers on an irregular basis.
Due to the high demand and the low supply, so-called "scalpers" try to profit from the shortage.
These offer the PS5 on the Internet much more expensive.
Now that Sony is raising the price of its own, perhaps more people will be willing to snag third-party deals - as long as it's not an overly unfair offer.
Every now and then you can find the PS5 online, where sellers even charge over 1,000 euros for it.
Buy the PS5 in store and march out?
That is still unthinkable.

Sony assures that improving availability is still the top priority.
In the last few months, the situation has at least improved somewhat.
But if you want to secure a PS5, you have to keep an eye on the online shops and be quick as soon as the console is available.

Microsoft and Nintendo aren't raising console prices
While the reasons behind the PlayStation price hike are somewhat understandable, Sony is currently the only company with such a move.
Microsoft has told

that no price changes are planned for the Xbox Series X/S.
And Nintendo had said the same recently.
For Sony, this means that the Xbox Series X in particular could be more attractive to many gamers due to its lower price.
