At the capital's airport Berlin-Brandenburg (BER), there were some severe restrictions on Friday due to the severe storm.
Due to a thunderstorm over the airport, ground staff on the apron stopped handling operations for around two hours at around 3 p.m.
The visitor terrace was also closed.
According to a BZ report, the heavy rain inside the airport building is also said to have caused problems: In a room in which a security check for airport staff is housed, the water ran in a thick jet from the ceiling next to a ventilation shaft, as the newspaper reports .
Because of the storm, several events in the capital were canceled on Friday.
For example, a concert by the band »Die Ärzte« on Tempelhofer Feld could not take place for safety reasons.
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also canceled his public festival on Friday evening to be on the safe side.
As early as Monday morning, there were traffic problems and restrictions almost throughout the city due to the heavy rain.
In view of hours of precipitation, a particularly large number of people switched from their bikes to their cars to get to work, so that it took drivers considerably longer than usual to get through the city.
The German Weather Service announced further downpours in the capital region for the weekend: There may be thunderstorms and local heavy rain until Saturday evening.
