The Higher Committee for University Absorption decided, during its meeting today, headed by Engineer Hussein Arnous, Prime Minister, to accept all successful students of the General Secondary Certificate in all its branches in the Syrian universities and institutes for the academic year 2022-2023, amounting to 131,892 male and female students. The focus was on increasing the number of seats for some specializations in the colleges and institutes that The labor market needs it in line with the requirements of economic and social development.

The committee agreed to increase the percentage of parallel education to 50 percent instead of 40 percent to increase the chances of admission to public universities and to conduct a central differentiation by the ministry for medical faculties in private universities. To ensure that no seat is lost in medical colleges.

The committee adopted the mechanisms and procedures for university admission by distributing differentiation centers in universities and their branches in the governorates, securing material supplies and administrative and technical human cadres, and forming committees to guide, raise awareness and direct students in all centers in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students.

Engineer Arnous stressed the importance of proper investment in human capital, as it is a basic building block for the development of various sectors, expressing the state's keenness to provide everything necessary to support the educational process and repair the shortage of human and educational cadres and members of the teaching staff in universities.

Arnous pointed to the need to focus on the specializations most in need of reconstruction, taking into account the requirements of global scientific and technological development, harmonizing the policy of absorption and the quality of the educational process, and increasing the absorptive capacity in some engineering colleges and technical institutes related to the needs of the labor market, stressing the importance of upgrading the levels of education and scientific research in universities and government institutes, and securing All supplies and equipment for the advancement of the educational system.

Eng. Arnous also addressed the importance of benefiting from the recent legislative instruments regarding the higher education sector, educational hospitals and university cities to provide the appropriate environment for education and scientific research.

For his part, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, gave a presentation on the measures taken to provide university admission requirements by increasing the number of differentiation centers in universities and their branches and institutes, pointing to the continuous work to develop study plans and curricula in universities and institutes.

Minister Ibrahim indicated to work on increasing the number of faculty members in universities and institutes, expanding the cadres of faculty members, in addition to modernizing and providing laboratories with modern equipment and technical means of education. The focus is also on the practical and practical aspects, training programs and the development of university books through the gradual transition to a digital book.

For his part, Dr. Ammar Saati, a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and head of the Central Youth Office, stressed the importance of absorbing all successful people and securing study seats for them in universities and public education institutes, pointing to the great and important institutional development witnessed by the higher education sector, which is reflected positively on the reality of economic and social development.

In turn, Dr. Mohsen Bilal, a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, head of the Central Office of Higher Education, stressed the importance of working to raise the level of higher education and a commitment to the quality and quality of education as a basis for development, construction and reconstruction, while Yasser Al-Shawfi, a member of the central leadership of the party, head of the Central Education and Vanguard Office, pointed out the need for Syrian universities remain centers of civilized radiation and the real lever of the nation, stressing the importance of focusing on securing cadres for all productive and educational sectors, which are directly reflected on the ground.

The interventions focused on the necessity of continuing to improve the conditions of faculty members in terms of incentives and compensation, in order to motivate them to work in scientific and research work, and increase acceptance in medical specialties (nursing, health sciences, medical institutes) and information engineering.
