Drinking milk is important for your health.

In recent years, many choose to switch to plant-based milk substitutes, and compounds that previously seemed strange or impossible to us, such as oat, soy or almond milk, are today on every supermarket shelf.

Many of those who choose to switch to plant-based drinks do so for various reasons, including sensitivity to lactose - the sugar in milk - but they are missing something important.

Milk and milk products are considered rich in nutrients, carbohydrates, high-quality proteins and good fats.

Avoidance or low consumption of dairy products may result in insufficient consumption of various nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin B12 and other vitamins.

As a result, nutritional deficiencies may arise, which may cause a variety of diseases.

In addition, avoiding milk and dairy products may cause insufficient calcium intake and lead to the risk of osteoporosis and fractures at a later age.

Bloating, gas and diarrhea

Lactose sensitivity is actually the inability to digest large amounts of it as a result of a lactase enzyme deficiency.

If the amount of the enzyme is insufficient, the milk and its products are not digested properly, and then various symptoms arise that can vary from person to person, such as abdominal bloating, rumbling stomach, gas, abdominal pain, nausea, soft stools and diarrhea.

These symptoms appear after eating dairy products containing lactose and disappear if lactose is not consumed.

It is estimated that the amount needed to create symptoms in most people is up to 10-12 grams of lactose, which is roughly the amount of lactose found in one glass of regular milk.

Lactose intolerance, which is estimated to affect about 70 percent of the adult population, can be genetic, but it is a rare phenomenon.

Usually the condition results from a decrease in the lactase enzyme level during life, but can also appear following a chronic disease or various surgeries.

It is important to understand that lactose intolerance is not a lactose allergy, because it is not an allergic reaction, which is an excessive immune response against a foreign factor to the body.

Unprocessed, without sugar and easy to digest

Unlike milk substitutes, lactose-free milk is not processed, does not contain carbohydrates and has no aftertastes, and in addition it is used as a quality source of protein.

But these are not its only advantages:

1. Lactose-free milk enriched with vitamin D

- in the production process of the "Tera" company, an addition of vitamin D is added to the milk, which contributes to a better absorption of the calcium that is naturally found in milk.

2. Rich in calcium

- one glass (200 ml) of "Tera" lactose-free milk provides at least 30% of the daily calcium allowance for the entire population, be it children, teenagers, adults or the elderly.

3. Naturally sweetened

- for a sweetness product natural compared to normal milk or plant milk to which sugar is added. On the other hand, the sweetness in lactose-free milk comes from the breakdown of lactose. The reason for this is that intact lactose, which is not broken down, is less sweet than its isolated components, glucose and galactose, after these have been broken down and separated.

4. Comfortable to digest

- As mentioned, the body is not supposed to break down lactose by itself, lactose is already broken down in milk and is therefore easier to digest.

So if you are sensitive to lactose, or even just feel that normal milk is simply not good for you, you don't need to switch to milk substitutes, but you can drink the real thing and enjoy all the health benefits, just without the side effects.
