The curse of the second season is not really a curse, but a challenging obstacle that must be overcome by a series that wishes to reproduce success and live up to the expectations it itself created.
It's even more challenging when success was unexpected.
All of this is less relevant to "Only Murderers in the Building", whose second season ended last week on Disney+, and it can be said that it managed to recreate the special charm from the previous season.
This time, too, there was a bizarre murder mystery in the Arconia apartment building, on the Upper West Side in New York, including the attempted incrimination of the three main characters (Steve Martin in the role of his life, Martin Short and Selena Gomez).
It works thanks to intelligent, witty and unexpected writing, a lot of humor, impressive acting abilities and a cadre of guest actors such as Shirley MacLaine, Tina Fey, Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer and others.
The X factor of the series is hidden in the concept.
Since the series depicts a plot centered on a podcast recording that investigates a murder, it uses the podcast to correspond with the viewer through it, and to discuss with a wink whether a second season was necessary or what is the necessary plot progression rate.
"Only murderers in the building" was the candy of the summer, and if there is anything more complicated than producing a second season that will compare to the first - it is to make a third season at the same level.
