To protect against food thieves, a Lidl branch now secures its minced meat with theft labels.

A customer shares her discovery on Facebook.

Users are divided.

Munich – You know it from fashion boutiques or from expensive technology products: Anti-theft devices on the items offered help companies in the fight against unwanted thieves.

On the other hand, they have rarely been found on groceries in discounters or supermarkets.

That could change soon, as a Lidl customer found out.

She shared her discovery on Facebook.

Lidl minced meat now protected against theft – customers are skeptical

The anti-theft device stuck on the minced meat in the supermarket refrigeration stands out in bright yellow.

"Secured item," reads it.

Below the note: "Remove label before heating".

A Lidl customer could hardly believe her eyes when she discovered the secured meat product and took the opportunity to create a Facebook post about it.

"It's abnormal," comments a user.

"Sad.

Just sad," judge others.

Another user goes even further: "That's ridiculous!

What are we customers accused of?” she asks.

The secured minced meat is by no means the first of its kind: Lidl is now also securing his steak against theft.

In Great Britain you can now even find cheese at Aldi with additional anti-theft protection.

The supermarket's measure is not far-fetched, say some users.

Many of them work in retail themselves and report on their experiences with theft: "If you knew how many steal it," says one.

"It is extremely stolen," reports another, "packaging torn open.

repackaged.

Labels pasted over.

The list is endless.”

Minced meat from the supermarket: Not everyone's taste

Even without the anti-theft device, many users would probably not be enthusiastic about the article.

"With or without, we don't buy such packaged minced meat anyway," one user makes clear.

Another adds: "Who buys meat in the supermarket?".

At the same time, other users are demanding more empathy: "I find it incredibly sad that you have to steal food," comments one user.

Another fears: "Soon [the fuse] will be on every product because nothing is cheap anymore."

Meanwhile, the Facebook community is puzzling over why the security stickers were introduced now.

"Could there be a switch to self-checkout, such etiquette should be necessary," suspects a user.

An Aldi branch in the Netherlands makes it even easier: it dispenses with cash registers entirely.

Customers only pay via app.
