“All members of the public must wear face masks at all times inside the Met”
.
The formula is becoming increasingly rare except for the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
The mythical New York institution continues to impose the mask during performances, for the duration of the 2022/2023 season, which begins on September 27.
“Gaiters, bandanas and masks with an exhalation valve are not authorized”
, specifies the establishment in its rules readable on its website.
A more restrictive rule than in most American and European theaters where the health crisis continues to weigh on the attendance rate.
ABC News
reports that the Met sold 61% of available tickets last season,
“compared to 75% in the last pre-pandemic season of 2018-19”.
If the New York opera imposes the mask, it however returns to another of its sanitary measures.
"Members of the public will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination to attend a show or event,"
the establishment's website reads.
Since January 17, 2022, the opera house located at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, required a booster dose
"to enter the Met"
.
A measure that concerned both the public and the opera staff.
The Metropolitan Opera will open its 2022/2023 season on September 27 with the premiere of
Medea
by Luigi Cherubini, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.
