A dead baby was found in a pond in Oberirsen in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The baby was discovered on Monday evening in a bag in the village in the Altenkirchen district, said a spokeswoman for the Koblenz police headquarters.
A spokesman for the Koblenz public prosecutor announced that an angler had found the dead baby in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald).
The autopsy of the body had been commissioned.
“This is initially used to check whether the child has been the victim of a homicide.
Only after the result of the autopsy can it be judged whether and, if so, which investigations are to be initiated," said the senior public prosecutor.
According to the dpa news agency, a resident said that the bag had been weighed down with stones.
The "Rhein-Zeitung" had previously reported on it.
