(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 30 - the story of a Pope who in just thirty-three days left an indelible mark on the history of the Church.

The beatification of Albino Luciani, the "Pope of Smile" - Sunday 4 September in St. Peter's Square by Pope Francis - brings to the attention of the whole world the figure of a man of faith and of the Church who knew how to make his life a masterpiece of humility , of tenacity, of a spirit of service and of love for all.

In his "The smile of the Pope. The life of Albino Luciani and the thirty-three days of John Paul I" (Edizioni San Paolo 2022, pp. 288, euro 22.00), from yesterday in the bookstore, Antonio Preziosi, with a story in a journalistic style , reconstructs details and episodes of the life of Albino Luciani and of the pontificate of John Paul I, who was pastor of the universal Church for a very short time, but was able to trace a path that is still relevant today with the strength of his example of life and his proverbial smile.

An updated biography, attentive to all aspects of the figure of the Pontiff who reigned for only a month: theologian, pastor, conciliar father, a man of intense and in some respects innovative spirituality.

The author, Antonio Preziosi is a journalist, essayist and writer.

He is currently director of Rai Parliament.

A long-time public service correspondent from Brussels, he has held the post of special envoy for years following the main events of domestic and international politics.

He also directed Radio Uno, Giornale Radio Rai and Gr Parliament.

A scholar of religious and Vatican issues, he was also Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

For Edizioni San Paolo he published in 2021 "The Pope had to die", an unprecedented and intense reconstruction of the attack on John Paul II and its consequences, inside and outside the Church.
