New at Rewe: Customers can now also receive the supermarket brochures via a WhatsApp chat.

A digital alternative to the printed flyer.

Cologne – When Rewe became the first supermarket in Germany to announce the end of paper advertising brochures at the end of July, it caused a lot of excitement.

Only about a month later, the supermarket chain from Cologne presents a new alternative: Rewe brochures are now also available via WhatsApp.

On Sundays, customers can receive the latest brochure from their local Rewe branch directly and free of charge via WhatsApp Messenger.

With this, Rewe wants to create a digital alternative a year before the end of printed flyers.

Goal: Wean Rewe customers off the paper version now.

The printed brochures at Rewe are to be discontinued on July 1, 2023.

Rewe is now distributing brochures via WhatsApp

According to Rewe, the prospectus via WhatsApp is now available nationwide.

The German launch was preceded by a test phase that was very successful, according to the retail giant.

However, registering for Rewe's WhatsApp service is not that easy.

We explain step by step how it works.

Receive a Rewe brochure via WhatsApp: Here's how

Requirement:

The messenger app WhatsApp must be installed on the smartphone

Step 1:

First, go to the rewe.de/whatsapp website in the browser on your smartphone, PC or similar

Step 2:

There you will find brief instructions and a button labeled "Start now".

This link can simply be clicked on the smartphone and a WhatsApp chat with “Rewe offers” will open.

Alternatively, you can also scan the QR code shown (e.g. when accessing via a browser) and then end up in the WhatsApp chat

Step 3:

The sentence "Send and off you go" will automatically appear in the text field of the chat.

This message must be sent.

You will then receive an automatic reply from Rewe.

In this reply, you will be asked to send either your current location or your postcode to Rewe.

Step 4:

Rewe now suggests one (or more) nearby branch(es) to the user.

You select the desired branch and then receive a link to the current digital Rewe brochure for the selected store

Step 5

: Finally, Rewe offers the user the choice of automatically receiving the new brochure via WhatsApp every Sunday.

To do this, select the "START" button.

If you decide against it, just click on "No, thanks!"

Rewe offers: Unsubscribe brochure on WhatsApp

If you want to unsubscribe from the Rewe brochure on WhatsApp, simply write the word "stop" in the chat history with "Rewe offers".

Rewe brochure via WhatsApp - for more sustainability

WhatsApp now belongs to the Facebook group Meta.

Rewe is the first food retailer to use the messenger service to offer a digital alternative to the printed brochure.

“For years, Rewe has consistently committed itself to sustainability in its corporate strategy and has successively and successfully transformed processes and offers with this in mind.

Above all, by means of digitization – where there is added value for customers,” says Bastian Tassew, Head of CRM & Owned Media at Rewe.
