Lorenzo Sonego fought until the end but was eliminated in the first round of the US Open tennis, the fourth and final slam of 2022 underway on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows in New York.
The 27-year-old from Turin n.63 in the ATP lost 2-6 1-6 6-2 6-4 6-4 after more than three hours of play to the 28-year-old Australian Jordan Thompson (# 102).
Martina Trevisan was also eliminated on her debut: the 28-year-old Florentine n.27 in the WTA was overtaken 7-5 6-1 by the 33-year-old Russian Evgeniya Rodina.
