Five facts about water (Walla system!)

Shortcuts for better digestive health come and go on Tiktok at a dizzying pace - and now it's a light drink called the "inner shower".

The drink is based on a well-known health pairing and one more healthy and important company - it consists of water and lemon with the addition of chia seeds.

"If you drink it on an empty stomach, it's just like an internal shower - it goes into all the corners of the stomach like an internal wash," Daryl Joffer, the drink's creator, told the Skinny Confidential podcast.

So it's true that we've already seen quite a few silly health trends on TikTok, but quite a few people who have tried the drink testify to its apparent ability to relieve constipation, bloating and even hangovers.

But is it really beneficial for digestive health?

Can the drink "increase" digestive activity?

The aforementioned drink makes use of chia seeds - extremely absorbent seeds, rich in fiber, which swell significantly when placed in liquid and get a unique gel-like texture.

They are considered to promote good digestive health and nourish healthy gut bacteria.

But promoting good gut health is not the same as "boosting" the body's digestive functions.

For most of us, these processes work automatically in the body, and it is not possible to speed up the enzymatic processes that help break down the food, or speed up digestion and absorption.

Some experts have suggested that some users may have confused the term "increasing" digestion with relieving constipation.

So what could be bad actually?

The "inner shower" recipe includes a few tablespoons of chia seeds, which may actually have the opposite effect on the intestines, since too much dietary fiber can also interfere with the digestive system and cause gas and bloating.

In addition, you should start slowly with the addition of chia seeds to the menu, so that the body gets used to it.

Two tablespoons of chia seeds weigh about 20-25 grams, and provide 9-10 grams of dietary fiber.

Considering that the recommended daily intake target for adults is 30 grams per day, the "indoor shower" may be a little too much.

So what can be done anyway?

In general, the drink includes very healthy ingredients, but increased drinking of water, with or without lemon - can alone improve the activity of the digestive system.

Adding lemon is certainly not harmful, and the chia can also be added, but it is recommended to do so in a smaller amount.
