(ANSA) - ROME - The heat waves caused, in July, an excess of mortality of 29% among the over-65s, for a total of 2,090 deaths in the 33 Italian cities monitored.
This is what emerges from the report published by the Ministry of Health, which shows that between 15 and 31 July there was a peak in excess mortality that reached 36%, equal to 1,412 deaths.
The greatest effect was found among those over 85, including an excess of mortality of 38% in July.
Between 1 and 15 August the excess mortality then dropped to + 18%, for a total of 641 deaths.
