Sinner (n.13 in the Atp) struggled to beat the German Daniel Altmaier (n.93): the South Tyrolean seeded n.11 a Flushing Meadows finished the match in 5-7 6-2 6-1 3-6 6 -1, after more than three and a half hours of play.
Musetti (# 30) defeated the former Belgian top 10 David Goffin (# 62), with a score of 3-6 7-5 6-4 3-6 7-6 (11-9).
A suffered victory also for Fognini (n.60), who got the better of the Russian Aslan Karatsev (n.38) for 1-6 5-7 6-4 6-1 6-4.
Bronzetti (# 59 in the WTA) was forced to retire on the score of 4-6 7-6 5-4 in favor of her opponent, the US Lauren Davis (# 105).
Cocciaretto (n.99) gave in instead for 6-2 6-4 to the Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (n.32).
