In September, millions of employees will be paid a 300-euro energy price lump sum.

This also includes the self-employed.

But how do you get the grant?

The federal government's energy price flat rate (EPP) is currently on everyone's lips.

As part of the second relief package, the one-time subsidy of EUR 300 is to be paid out in September.

As a rule, this is done via the employer, who pays out the EPP via the September salary.

But it is not only employees who are subject to income tax who are entitled to the energy flat-rate – the self-employed and tradespeople also benefit from it.

However, unlike employees, they do not receive a salary payment.

So how do self-employed people get the money?

The self-employed are also entitled to the energy price flat rate of 300 euros.

Energy price flat rate: The self-employed pay 300 euros less in taxes

The self-employed receive the energy price flat rate via their quarterly advance payment.

You simply pay 300 euros less tax.

"For those who are now paying income tax prepayments, this prepayment will be reduced by 300 euros in September," explains Daniela Karbe-Gessler from the Taxpayers' Association to the

MDR

.

According to vgsd

, the corresponding payment request for the third quarter will

be reduced accordingly.

At the tax office, the originally fixed advance payments remain in the system, and the state pays the underpaid taxes of 300 euros.

Taxes are still due on the energy price flat rate for the self-employed

However, just as with employees, the energy allowance still has to be taxed.

For the self-employed, this is done via the income tax return.

How much of the 300 euros is left at the end depends on the amount of income tax.

According to the

MDR

, the self-employed can expect deductions of up to 42 percent.

However, no further deductions are due – neither sales tax nor trade tax or social security contributions.

Students and pensioners are not entitled to the energy flat rate.

But there is a trick you can use to get the money even in retirement.

Other groups of people, on the other hand, could be blessed with the double payment of a total of 600 euros in energy price flat rate.

The joy shouldn't last long - the money has to be repaid.
