Venice, the program: 1 September star Blanchett and Inarritu

Two of the most anticipated international films arrive at the Venice Film Festival on 1 September: TAR by Todd Field, starring Cate Blanchett as a charismatic conductor, and BARDO, FALSA CRONICA DE UNAS CUANTAS VERDADES, return, seven years after Revenant, directing a feature film for Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, who here signs his most autobiographical work.

Out of competition debuts the final chapter, RIGET EXODUS, of the cult television story started by Lars von Trier in 1994 and continued in 1997, set in a disturbing hospital in Denmark, called 'the kingdom'.

Also out of competition, the documentary BOBI WINE: GHETTO PRESIDENT by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo about the Ugandan Bobi Wine, his country's musical superstar and activist for the defense of the rights of the population, and LIVING by Oliver Hermanus, a delicate remake based on the award's screenplay Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, with Bill Nighy, of one of Kurosawa's masterpieces, Vivere.

At Orizzonti Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel bring VERA, a mix between reality and fiction starring Vera Gemma.

Among the other events of the day, the presentation at Venezia Classici of the restored version of TEOREMA directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini in 1968.

Here are some of the main events: Todd Field's TAR (Venice 79) with Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kaue (Sala Grande at 5.15pm).

Set in the international world of classical music, Tar focuses on the figure of the first woman in history to become the conductor of one of the most important German orchestras.

"The script was written for an artist: Cate Blanchett - explained Field in the production notes -. If she had refused, the film would never have seen the light".

BARDO, CHRONIC FALSE DE UNAS CUANTAS VERDADES by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu (Venice 79) with Daniel Giménez Cacho, Griselda Siciliani, Ximena Lamadrid, Iker Sanchez Solano (Sala Grande at 9pm).

It is set during the intimate and moving journey of Silverio, a well-known Mexican journalist and documentary maker who lives in Los Angeles.

The man, after having received a prestigious international recognition, is forced to return to his native country, unaware that this simple journey will push him towards a profound existential crisis.

RIGET EXODUS by Lars von Trier (Out of competition) with Bodil Jorgensen, Mikael Persbrandt, Tuva Novotny, Lars Mikkelsen (Palabiennale at 1pm).

A gigantic organism of flesh and blood has materialized in the rooms and corridors of the Kingdom.

Sleepwalker Karen senses that something is wrong and reaches The Kingdom in search of answers.

BOBI WINE: GHETTO PRESIDENT by Christopher Sharp, Moses Bwayo (Out of competition), documentary (Sala Grande at 2.30pm).

VERA by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel (Orizzonti) with Vera Gemma, Daniel De Palma, Sebastian Dascalu (Sala Darsena at 5pm).

Vera lives in the shadow of a famous father.

She is tired of her life and her superficial relationships, she wanders in Roman high society.

When she injures an eight-year-old boy in a car accident in a suburban area, she begins an intense relationship with him and her father.

But she soon realizes that, even in this world, she is but a tool for others.
