If you want to save water, you can start with going to the toilet.

We reveal the best tips for saving water with the toilet.

In many areas of Germany, drinking water becomes scarce in summer when there is a drought.

Then it's time to limit water consumption so that there is enough for everyone.

However, if you save water, you can also reduce your household costs and do something good for the environment at the same time.

In this way, you can already significantly reduce your consumption when going to the toilet.

While some do without toilet paper to reduce their water bill, it is also much easier.

We will tell you how with the following tips and tricks.

Every time we go to the toilet, we flush up to 14 liters of water down the drain.

Tips for saving water: How to use the toilet

According to the Federal Environment Ministry, older toilets use around 9 to 14 liters per flush.

6 to 9 liters are sufficient for a perfect flushing process - in many cases even less.

How to save water when going to the toilet:

  • Use the economy button:

Modern toilets are usually equipped with two buttons: one large and one small.

Only use the big button for big business, as it flushes more water down the toilet.

With the small "economy button" only a fraction is used and is sufficient for urine and a little toilet paper.

  • Press the stop button:

Your legacies are no longer visible, but water is still running?

Then simply press the flush button in the opposite direction.

The rinsing process is stopped immediately and valuable water is saved.

  • Put a plastic bottle in the cistern:

If you don't have a stop button, you can use a little trick: fill a plastic bottle with water or sand and put it in the cistern.

In this way, the toilet tank is automatically filled with less valuable liquid.

  • Check the cistern regularly:

Toilet cisterns tend to leak at some point.

Then water flows unnoticed into the toilet bowl and the cistern is automatically refilled.

Therefore, check your toilet regularly for defects and have them repaired promptly to avoid wasting water unnecessarily.

Tip: Sometimes it helps to descale the cistern.

  • Use rainwater:

It is particularly water-saving to fill your cistern with rainwater instead of valuable drinking water.

A rainwater harvesting system makes it possible.

This collects the rainwater and leads it through a pipe into the toilet box.

The garden can also be watered with such a system.

Admittedly, it is time-consuming, but it protects the environment and, in the long term, your wallet.

A four-person household should be able to save up to 300 euros a year.

However, such a system only pays off for homeowners after ten years and more, informs
