At least five climbers have died on a volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in far eastern Russia.
The investigators said on Saturday that they had fallen from a great height.
The tourists from several regions of Russia were therefore traveling to the highest active volcano in Eurasia at 4750 meters - the Klyuchevskaya Sopka.
The accident happened about 500 meters below the summit.
According to the investigative committee, a mountain guide was injured.
Another alerted the emergency services via satellite phone.
The exact circumstances were still unclear in the afternoon.
The group of ten climbers left on Tuesday.
Rescue workers rushed the climbers with a helicopter to help.
