Tasty, but what helps later against the smell of garlic?

Who does not know and fear them?

The 🧄 flag after enjoying tsatsiki is as sure as amen in church.

In order not to drive away your fellow human beings, there are a few tricks that should help to keep bad breath under control.

What exactly, you can read further down in the article.

That's how it's done:

You only need a few ingredients:

  • Pita Bread:

  • 250 grams of wheat flour

  • 0.5 tsp salt

  • 7 grams of dry yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 150 ml water, lukewarm

  • 20 ml olive oil

  • Tzatziki:

  • 400 g cucumber

  • 400 g Greek yoghurt (10% fat)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp lemon zest

  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar

  • Some lemon juice

  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 10 g dill, chopped

The preparation is so easy:

  • For the pita breads:

mix flour, salt, dry yeast and sugar in a bowl.

Pour in the water and knead into a dough using the dough hook of a hand mixer.

Knead in the olive oil with your hands until you get a homogeneous dough.

Cover and let rest in a warm place for at least 45 minutes.

  • For the tsatsiki:

clean the cucumber, wash, halve lengthwise, deseed and grate.

Then press the excess water out of the cucumber with a clean kitchen towel.

  • Whisk together the yogurt, salt, pepper, olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and garlic in a bowl.

Fold in the cucumber and dill.

If necessary, season again with salt, pepper and lemon juice.

  • Knead the risen dough again on a work surface dusted with flour, divide into 4 portions and roll out thinly with a floured rolling pin.

  • Heat some oil in a pan.

Carefully brown the flatbreads on both sides.

Serve the pita bread warm or keep warm in the oven.

  • Tip: the finished tsatsiki should sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours to develop its full aroma.

  • This recipe should not be missing from any Greek menu: pita breads with tsatsiki.

Here's how to counteract a garlic plume:

Since the smell of garlic comes "from within", brushing your teeth unfortunately does not bring any relief.

    But these home remedies:

    • Herbs:

essential herbs such as sage, mint or parsley can neutralize the smell of garlic when eaten.

Important: chew well and for a long time!

    • Ginger:

the essential oils have the same effect as chewing herbs.

Tip: if ginger is too spicy for you, you can also use ginger candy or candied ginger.

    • Milk:

may temporarily reduce the sulphurous and foul-smelling compounds in garlic.

    • Apples:

neutralize the sulfur bonds and ensure fresh breath.

    • By the way, you can get rid of the smell of garlic on your hands with a lemon juice and salt scrub.
