“This makeshift mosque (…) was the only place for Muslims to pray,” sums up Yacoub, bitter on discovering his place of worship reduced to ashes.
The tent that housed the Rambouillet mosque (Yvelines), installed in the Louvière district, completely burned down during the night of September 2 to 3.
The fire, which broke out around 1 a.m., mobilized about fifteen firefighters.
An investigation opened for “voluntary destruction by incendiary substance” was entrusted to the criminal brigade of the DRPJ of Versailles.
"I was scared, I thought it was the gas," says Geneviève, a neighbor of the mosque who says she was awakened by an explosion.
According to two witnesses heard by the investigators, two men left the area running when the fire broke out.
The same witnesses explain that the flames were blue, which points to a fire started by means of hydrocarbons.

This place of worship of about forty square meters installed behind the school of La Louvière, on land belonging to the town hall, had been used since 2009 by the Muslims of Rambouillet and the surrounding municipalities.
Every Friday, for the great prayer, it welcomed between 100 and 120 faithful.
The faithful are called to temporarily join the mosque of Coignières, 15 km away.
