Haifa Film Festival: these are the Israeli films participating in the competition Israel today

50 new Israeli films will be screened as part of the Haifa International Film Festival, which will be held at Ha'am Sukkot • Among the most notable are "Valeria Gets Married" by Michal Vinik, which was recently screened at the Venice Film Festival, and "My Neighbor Adolf" by Leon Prodovsky, which was already shown at the Locarno Festival


No fewer than 50 new Israeli films will be screened as part of the Haifa International Film Festival, which will be held in Sukkot between October 8 and 17. Seven films will take part in the feature competition, including two films that have already had their premieres at major festivals abroad L: "Valeria Gets Married" by Michal Vinik, which premiered this week at the Venice Film Festival, and "My Neighbor Adolf" by Leon Prodovsky, which had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival a few weeks ago.

Vinik's film, which also boasts 14 Ophir Award nominations, tells the story of a Ukrainian citizen married to an Israeli man, who seeks to help her younger sister follow in her footsteps and settle in Israel with an Israeli groom.

"My Neighbor Adolf", which takes place in South America in 1960, deals with a Holocaust survivor who is convinced that his new neighbor is Adolf Hitler.

The other films in the feature competition are "Virgins", the first film by Maor Zagori ("Zagori Imperia", "Shababnikim"), starring Maor Levy and Liana Ayon, which tells the story of the coming of age of a boy whose mother dies exactly the year he discovers his sexuality;

"The Gospel According to Yehuda", an adaptation of Amos Oz's novel directed by the veteran Dan Wellman ("Hiding Places", "The Distance");

The good soul" by screenwriter-director Eitan Aner ("Ricky Ricky"), centered on a Tel Aviv film producer who is forced to collaborate with a respected former director who repented and became a rabbi; "The Fat" by Gudis Schneider, which focuses on the relationship that develops between a large-bodied soldier and a female officer Yaffe; and "Nobody's Children" by the prolific director Erez Tadmor ("A Big Story", "Wounded Land") and starring Roi Assaf and Tiki Dayan (nominated for an Ofir Award for her role), which deals with a guide at a shelter for at-risk boys in Neve Tzedek who goes into battle to save The place is about to close.

Eight new films will participate in the documentary competition this year, including "We will never part" by Alon Gor Aryeh ("The Institution"), which deals with the actor and director Yehuda Barkan;

"Nitza's Choice" by Uri Barbash ("One of ours"), centered on a Holocaust survivor who reveals a dramatic affair from her past;

and "44 Hours" by Rotem Gross about a patient with cerebral edema who only has a few more hours left to live.

The films that complete the list of contestants in the documentary category are "Empty Hands" by Moriah Ben Avot, about a couple dealing with a pregnancy that gets complicated;

"Bronka!"

of Tomer Slutsky and Shlomo Slutsky, who follows the extradition attempts of an Argentine war criminal living in Israel;

"Live in the movie" by Amit Miller and Miri Orman, which tells the story of a musician who organizes a farewell party for herself;

"Full hands" by Efrat Livy, which deals with three religious young women who pay heavy prices for the dream of a large family;

and "Honey Trap" by Almvark Davidian and Kobi Davidian, which follows an Ethiopian community in the streets that is undergoing an upheaval following an ambitious construction clearance project that is changing the character of the neighborhood.

As part of the festival, there will also be a short Israeli film competition in which 33 films will participate, and there will be premiere screenings of two new local TV series: "Who has heard of Chava and Nava?", a new comedy drama from the creators of "My Successful Sisters", Galia Hogi and Noa Arenberg, and "The Mandate" ", a 3-episode documentary mini-series by Kaan 11 that illuminates a forgotten period in Israeli history in a new light.
