Force Ouvrière will not participate in the day of strike and demonstration organized at the call of the CGT on September 29, the secretary general of the third French union, Frédéric Souillot, told AFP on Tuesday.
The CGT and Solidaires called at the beginning of the summer for a day of strike and demonstration on September 29, in particular to demand an increase in wages, and have since received the support of left-wing parties and associations such as Attac or Oxfam.
All these organizations co-signed a joint communiqué published on August 28.
“
We will not go
” on September 29, Frédéric Souillot told AFP, highlighting the necessary “
freedom and independence
” of unions vis-à-vis political organizations.
"
For us at FO, it's in the preamble to the statutes, that's why we created Force Ouvrière, so as not to be the transmission belt of a political party
", he justified.

In recent months, FO had joined most of the demonstrations organized by the CGT, for the defense of purchasing power and against the pension reform.
The unions could converge on a European day of action for wage increases "
in the first half of October
", according to Frédéric Souillot.
The exact date of this day will be decided by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on September 13, he said.
The ETUC is chaired by the number one of the CFDT, Laurent Berger.
